Pool Play Game 1

Wildcats 35 Lake Norman NC 31

After 46 games the team inexplicably played poorly in route to its first pool play victory.  2 injuries and foul trouble did not help the cause any.  Natasha Cloud led the team in scoring with 9 but Jen Carney gave the team a boost with some sharp shooting off the bench contributing 7.  Sara Chazin provided an early spark with 5 off the bench.

Championship Round

Wildcats 42 Tennesse Swoosh 23

The wildcats faced a familiar opponent after a 3 way tie was broken in another pool.  The team was a bit sluggish in the first half leading by a bucket.  The defense was adjusted to counter #43s offensive abilities.  The team ran away with the game in the second half.  Sam Wilson poured in 17 points, Jenna Crowley 11, Natasha Cloud 9.

Ohio Lady Diamonds 50 Wildcats 37

Lady luck was not on the side of the Lady Wildcats.  A bad draw was forth coming  and the eventual champion of the tournament was waiting.   The team fell behind early by 19 points and closed it to 15 at the half.   The girls did not quit and trimmed the lead to 8 with 7 minutes to go.   The opponent was the better team.  Sam Wilson had 13 points and Natasha Cloud 11, Karen Flagg 6 in defeat.

Losers Bracket

Wildcats 47 Lake Norman NC 29

Another familiar opponent was waiting as the team avenged an earlier poor performance against Lake Norman despite winning the pool play game.  The team pressed their way to a big lead 26-8 using the 22 press.  Lake Norman was no match for us this time.  Natasha Cloud had 14 points, Jen Carney 8, Jenna Crowley 7, Lex Zambino and Karen Flagg 6 each.

Wildcats 62 Memphis Glory 59  OT

The team came out firing 3’s early and often en route to a 21-8 lead.  Natasha Cloud, Lex Zambino and Jenna Crowley all buried 3’s to force Memphis out of their zone early.  They would not play zone the rest of the way.  Having a 3 point shooter of their own, Memphis’ # 24 would not miss, bringing them back later.  The wildcats lead 31-23 at half.  The game turned into a shootout as Memphis roared back to within 6 at 36-30 and tied it at 41.  Lex hit 4 more threes erasing a 4 point 45-41 lead.  With 1 second on the shot clock and a side in bound looming, Lex caught a pass, turned and banked in a left handed 3 from the side marker to tie the game again.  The girls could not hold a 4 point lead late and the game went to OT.  Jenna Crowley hit a layup off the tap and Sam a short jumper in the early stages of the extra 5 minute period.  The team held on with a key foul shot by Natasha Cloud.  Lex Zambino lead the team with 16 points, Sam Wilson 13, Jenna Crowley 11, Natasha Cloud 8 and Jen Carney 6.

West Virginia Tornadoes 33 Wildcats 30

The team was facing a tough stretch with 5 more games on tap in the next two days!  WV played a slow down style and packed in a zone.   The Wildcats coming off a big win the night before were flat.  The Wildcats fell behind 19-8.   After WV foul trouble and an injury to #2 on WV, the Wildcats were able to press their way to a 19-19 tie at half.  The second half was not much different as the Wildcats Man D held WV down but the packed in zone of WV was preventing any inside game.   The Wildcats had several shot clock violations.   The game stood at 31-30 for the last 1.36.  Forced to foul, the Wildcats trailed 33-30 with 4.6 seconds to go.  A desperation 3 point attempt by Karen Flagg fell off the glass as the clock wound down and the season was over.
